Password requirements for your Fidesic login

What your Fidesic password needs, and the characters it can and can't contain

What your password needs

Whenever you set a Fidesic password — signing up, changing it, or resetting a forgotten one — it has to meet all five of these:

  • 8 to 32 characters long
  • At least one letter and at least one number
  • Only the characters listed below — no spaces
  • Not your email address or username
  • Not a common password, such as password123, qwerty or letmein, and not the word Fidesic

When you're changing your password, your new one also can't be the same as your current one.

Characters you can use

Fidesic accepts letters, numbers and a short list of symbols:

  • Letters: A–Z and a–z
  • Numbers: 0–9
  • Symbols: - _ . / @ $ * & ! #

Anything else is rejected. The ones people most often run into are:

  • Spaces. A passphrase like correct horse battery staple won't work — join the words together or separate them with a hyphen or underscore instead.
  • Other symbols, including % ^ + = ? ( ) [ ] { } , ; : ' " < > | \ ~ `
  • Accented and non-English letters, such as é, ñ or ü

Where you set your password

When you create your account

Your password is set on the sign-up form. The requirements are listed under the password box, and each one turns green as you meet it.

Changing it while you're signed in

Go to Manage Account under the Accounts menu, then click Change Password. You'll be asked for your current password before you can set a new one.

If you've forgotten it

Click Forgot password? on the login page. Fidesic emails you a reset link, and you set a new password from there. The same requirements apply. For the full walkthrough, see How to Reset Your Fidesic Password.

Your password isn't being accepted

If the form won't let you continue, check these in order:

  • Length. Count the characters — it needs at least 8 and no more than 32.
  • Letters and numbers. Letters alone or numbers alone won't pass. You need at least one of each.
  • Hidden spaces. A space anywhere in the password, including one pasted in from the end of a copied value, will be rejected. Click the eye icon to show what you've typed.
  • Pasted passwords. If you generated the password in a password manager, it may contain symbols Fidesic doesn't accept. Set the generator to use only - _ . / @ $ * & ! #, or edit the password by hand.
  • Your email address. The part of your email before the @ can't appear in your password.

Choosing a good password

  • Use a password you haven't used anywhere else. Fidesic handles your payments and bank details, so a password reused from another site puts that at risk if the other site is breached.
  • Let a password manager generate and store it. That's the easiest way to get a long, random password you don't have to remember.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication. It's the single biggest improvement you can make to your account's security. See How to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your Fidesic Login.

Fidesic will never ask you for your password by email or over the phone. If you get a message asking for it, don't reply — forward it to support@fidesic.com.
